Advent Calendars

I have very fond - although vague - memories of our annual Advent Calendar. Mum used to make it and I remember long pieces of green and red ribbon, 24 Minties (or was it Fantales??) attached and some sort of poem. I'm sure it was more elaborate than that, but as a child it's really all about the sweets isn't it?

If you're looking to re-create the Advent Calendar magic in your home this coming festive season, you'd better get your skates on. Whether you plan on making one or ordering a charming version like these.....you don't need me to tell you that you've got 5 weeks until the countdown begins.

The Rustic Boutique makes this classy stocking version. Small enough to get 24 across your window/mantle/wall, but big enough to hold a small gift, treat, or message for your little one to open in anticipation of the big day! USD $65

Below is something you could knock up yourself, but for AUD $39, who could be bothered? Merry Matchboxes has designed these slide boxes to hold a little daily December treasure and....after each day/number is opened, you can turn it over and slowly the words Merry Christmas will be revealed. Clever hey?

A cheap and cheerful way to turn a simple brown paper bag or noodle box into your own Advent Calendar is to use these number tags below. Designed and printed by Kaitlin at Ormolu for AUD$5.00.

Who could resist hanging a linen advent calendar? Clearly one for the adults or the ultra discerning child...Pilosale make beautiful linen based creations, but this delightful number (sorry!) will set you back AUD$80 (plus the expensive, gourmet treats you'll need to fill the pockets with). A mintie in this case, just will not do.
Every child - big & small - will delight in this one by Mirpo. It speaks for itself really. The tree is handmade in felt and each of the 24 ornaments are in felt or other fun stuff. USD$89.

If you'd prefer to leave the treats and sweets til the big day, then why not print out a picture of the big guy's face and simply stick a white fluffy cotton ball onto his beard each day on the lead up. For under AUD$4 you can order this one from Wyldcat

What are you waiting for? There is no time like the present (pun intended!).
